Water Slide Rental Safety Tips — What Every Parent Needs to Know Before Booking

Pepe's Party Rental · Stafford, VA

Keeping Kids Safe on Rental Water Slides

Water slides are the #1 most-requested summer rental at Pepe's Party Rental — and for good reason. On a 90-degree Virginia afternoon, there's nothing kids love more. But as with any inflatable, safety starts with the adults.

We've supervised thousands of water slide setups across Stafford, Fredericksburg, and Northern Virginia. Here's what we've learned about keeping the fun safe.

Before the Water Slide Arrives

Choose the Right Slide for the Age Group

  • Ages 3-7: Smaller combo units with gentle slopes and splash pools — our Sunshine Combo and Flower Slide are perfect
  • Ages 6-12: Mid-size slides like the Tropical and WaveSplash — exciting but manageable
  • Ages 10+: Giant slides like the NASA Water Slide and T-Rex — tall, fast, and thrilling

Prepare Your Yard

  • Clear the setup area of rocks, sticks, pet waste, and sharp objects
  • Ensure the ground is level — water slides on slopes are dangerous
  • Confirm you have a working hose bib within 50 feet of the slide location
  • Plan for drainage — water will pool around the base

During the Party — Safety Rules That Matter

Adult Supervision is Non-Negotiable

At least one adult should be watching the slide at all times. This isn't a "set it and forget it" rental. Assign a parent to slide duty in 30-minute shifts so everyone gets to enjoy the party.

Slide Rules to Enforce

  • One rider at a time — no trains, no pairs, no piling on
  • Feet first, face up — never headfirst
  • No climbing up the slide surface — use the stairs only
  • No shoes, glasses, or jewelry on the slide
  • No food or drinks near the slide
  • Wait until the previous rider is clear before the next one goes

Water Safety Basics

  • Children under 5 should have a parent at the base of the slide
  • Non-swimmers should use the splash pool only, not the slide
  • Apply sunscreen before getting on — waterlogged sunscreen is less effective
  • Hydration breaks every 30-45 minutes — kids forget to drink water when they're having fun

Weather Considerations

  • Lightning: If you hear thunder or see lightning, everyone off the slide immediately. Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder before resuming
  • Wind: If sustained winds exceed 25 mph, the slide must be deflated for safety. Our team will advise you during setup
  • Temperature: Water slides are most comfortable above 75°F. Below 70°F, kids get cold fast even in the water

Our Safety Standards

Every water slide in our fleet is:

  • Commercially rated and inspected before each rental
  • Sanitized and cleaned between every event
  • Properly anchored with stakes or sandbags
  • Equipped with splash pools and safety netting where applicable
  • Set up by our trained crew — never self-serve
