Bounce House or Combo Slide? Here's How to Decide
It's the most common question we get: "Should I rent a bounce house or a combo?" Both are great — but they serve different parties. The right choice depends on your kids' ages, your yard size, and what kind of party you're throwing.
Here's the honest breakdown from years of setting up both.
Standard Bounce House
What It Is
A classic inflatable castle or themed house with an enclosed jumping area. No slides, no climbing walls — just pure bouncing. Our standard bounce houses are 13x13 feet (jumping area) and hold 6-8 kids at a time.
Best For
- Ages 2-8 — especially toddlers and younger kids
- Smaller yards (needs about 16x16 feet plus clearance)
- Parties where younger kids are the primary guests
- Budget-conscious parents ($170-$210)
Pros
- Lower cost — starting at $170 for the full day
- Smaller footprint — fits in more backyards
- Safer for very young children — no climbing or sliding risks
- Kids can see out and parents can see in
- Easy for mixed ages — even 2-year-olds can bounce
Cons
- Older kids (8+) may get bored after 30-45 minutes
- Less variety — just bouncing
- No wow factor compared to combos
Combo Bounce House with Slide
What It Is
A larger inflatable that combines a bouncing area with one or two slides, and sometimes a climbing wall or basketball hoop. Our combos range from 14x27 to 14x32 feet.
Best For
- Ages 4-12 — the sweet spot
- Larger yards (needs about 18x35 feet plus clearance)
- Mixed-age parties where you need entertainment variety
- Parties with 10+ kids — the slide creates natural flow and reduces crowding
Pros
- Multiple activities — kids rotate between bouncing, climbing, and sliding
- Keeps older kids entertained much longer (2+ hours easy)
- Feels more "premium" — kids get more excited
- Better photos — the slide action shots are always the best
- The double-slide combos can handle more kids simultaneously
Cons
- Larger footprint — won't fit in small or narrow backyards
- Higher cost ($250-$375 depending on the model)
- Not ideal for very young kids (under 3) — the slides can be too much
- Requires more supervision at the slide exit
Our Recommendation by Scenario
- Toddler party (ages 2-4): Standard bounce house. Safer, simpler, more appropriate
- Kids party (ages 4-8): Combo slide. They'll use every feature for hours
- Mixed ages (2-12): Combo slide — younger kids can stick to the bouncing area while older kids use the slides
- Teen party (12+): Skip the bounce house, get the water slide or mechanical bull
- Tight budget: Standard bounce house at $170 is incredible value for 8 hours of entertainment
- Want the best bang for the buck: Combo slide at $250-$300 — multiple activities in one rental
